DG Consulting Services

Engtech are fully qualified to assist with all types of projects, from large capital works with defined project stages, to minor jobs where intermediate stages blend into one. We pride ourselves as being a ‘one stop shop’ when it comes to providing dangerous goods consulting services.

During the tendering process, Engtech will usually recommend that the client adopts a staged approach while completing the DG project. This approach has a number of key advantages, including:

  • Providing clear objectives and key milestones to reduce undesired scope creep.
  • Reduce the risk of any unexpected surprises by providing budget estimates and a defined scope prior to the commencement of each stage.
  • Client has the ability to seek competitive pricing prior to the commencement of each stage.

Appraise Stage

  • Do you need a new DG or explosives store at your site?
  • Does an existing system require modifications or upgrading?
  • Is your site documentation outdated and require updating?

During the Appraise Stage, Engtech listens to our clients to understand the key objectives of the project and help to present a path forward, identify any potential project risks, and if required, suggest an alternative approach. This provides the client with clarity and a clear vision of the direction of the project.

Select Stage

  • What options are available to achieve the project objectives?
  • What are the costs, lead times and other factors that should be considered while selecting an option?

During the Select Stage, clients are often searching for ways to execute their DG project whilst minimising costs, lead time and disruptions to other business activities. Using our experience and extensive industry knowledge, Engtech are able to tailor a solution that provides the best outcome for our client.

Define Stage

  • The project team develops the preferred solution into a detailed methodology, in addition to preparing drawings, cost estimates, project schedules and other deliverables.
  • If required, Engtech will submit an application for a DG or Explosives Licence with DMIRS on the client’s behalf.
  • For ‘unusual’ DG systems, a ‘First Principles Risk Assessment’ may be required.

During the Define Stage, Engtech perform a compliance assessment of the DG depot or design against the DG Regulations and applicable Australian Standards, and where required, apply for a new or amended DG Licence.

Engtech are also equipped to facilitate ‘First Principle Risk Assessment’ stakeholder meetings, and often provide risk assessment worksheets and meeting reports as deliverables.

By engaging Engtech during the Select and Define stages, proposed designs and solutions can be checked for compliance with the DG Regulations and Australian Standards before any construction costs are incurred.

Execute Stage

The new or upgraded/ modified DG Depot is installed and commissioned. For high risk DG systems, Engtech recommend that a post commissioning inspection also be undertaken.
